Geologist

Turner Staffing Group is seeking motivated Geologists / Core Loggers to support an active underground drilling and exploration program. This role is responsible for detailed geological logging and interpretation of diamond drill core, playing a critical role in advancing exploration and resource development.

This is an excellent opportunity for early-career geologists (1–3 years) as well as those with more experience looking to build hands-on expertise in an active mining environment.

Project Duration

  • Short-Term: April – September 2026 (flexible; open to early-career candidates)
  • Long-Term: Ongoing (year-round underground drilling support)

Schedule

  • 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off (21 days on, 21 days off)
  • Typical rotation start: Wednesday
  • 11-hour shifts during rotation
  • Fly-in/fly-out with camp accommodations provided

Position Overview

As part of the geology team, the Geologist / Core Logger is responsible for detailed geological and geotechnical logging of diamond drill core, ensuring accurate data collection to support exploration modeling and operational decision-making.

This role combines technical geological work, field coordination, and collaboration with drill crews and core technicians in both surface and underground environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed geological and geotechnical core logging
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC protocols for logging and sampling
  • Interpret lithology, structure, alteration, and mineralization
  • Photograph and document core boxes and drill results
  • Plot drillhole cross-sections and assist with geological interpretation
  • Review and validate core logging data for quality and accuracy
  • Coordinate with drill crews, geotechnicians, and operations teams
  • Assist with drill rig inspections (surface and underground)
  • Support sample tracking and data entry into geological databases
  • Provide guidance and support to core technicians on sampling and processing
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field
  • 1–3+ years of geology experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of core logging and geological interpretation
  • Ability to work in underground, surface, and remote environments
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without work visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with diamond drill core logging
  • Underground mining or exploration experience
  • Experience with Leapfrog, GIS, or geological modeling software
  • Familiarity with geological databases such as acQuire
  • Experience supporting drilling programs

Work Environment

  • Combination of core shed, underground, and field environments
  • Exposure to variable weather, underground conditions, and industrial settings
  • Physically active role including lifting, walking, and equipment interaction
  • Camp-based living during rotation
