Laboratory Manager

Turner Staffing Group is recruiting a highly experienced Laboratory Manager to lead a geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory for one of our clients in the Las Vegas, Nevada area. This is a critical leadership role responsible for laboratory operations, staff supervision, quality control, certifications, equipment management, and coordination with project teams.

This position is ideal for a seasoned materials testing professional with strong technical expertise in soils, asphalt, and concrete, combined with proven people leadership and operational management skills.

Position Overview

The Laboratory Manager oversees all aspects of laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with standard testing methods, certification requirements, and quality standards. The role includes direct supervision and mentorship of laboratory staff, responsibility for lab data integrity, equipment maintenance, budget oversight, and close coordination with Project Managers to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of a geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory

  • Ensure laboratory compliance with all applicable standard test methods for soils, asphalt, and concrete testing

  • Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory technicians and staff

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and well-organized laboratory data and documentation

  • Oversee laboratory certifications, audits, and accreditation requirements

  • Manage laboratory equipment maintenance, calibration, and procurement

  • Control laboratory budgets, workflow planning, and resource allocation

  • Communicate clearly and consistently with Project Managers regarding laboratory operations, schedules, and deliverables

  • Ensure project documentation is neat, complete, and delivered in a timely manner

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment

  • Uphold company quality, safety, and professional standards

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in soils, asphalt, and concrete testing (or equivalent construction materials testing background)

  • Strong working knowledge of laboratory testing standards and procedures

  • Minimum 5+ years of relevant laboratory and materials testing experience preferred

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage laboratory staff

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer

Required Certifications

Candidates must possess ACI certifications, including:

  • Concrete Strength Testing Technician

  • Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I

  • Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I

  • Aggregate Base Testing Technician

  • Aggregate Testing Technician – Level II

  • Masonry Laboratory Testing Technician

Plus NAQTC certifications, including:

  • Sampling and Density

  • Aggregate

  • Asphalt

  • Asphalt Extended Tests
