CDL Maintenance and Truck Shop Manager

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized CDL Maintenance and Truck Shop Manager to oversee all aspects of our fleet maintenance operations. This role is responsible for managing daily shop activities, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, supervising a team of mechanics/technicians, and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy-duty truck maintenance, a valid CDL (Class A or B), and proven leadership experience in a shop environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of all shop personnel, including technicians, service writers, and parts personnel.
  • Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a fleet of trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards (DOT/FMCSA).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance and diagnostics when necessary.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels for parts and supplies; work with vendors to order and restock as needed.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and ensure timely inspections.
  • Track costs, labor, and equipment downtime to improve efficiency and reduce overhead.
  • Train and mentor shop staff; support career development and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with dispatch and operations teams to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Enforce workplace safety policies and OSHA standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
  • Valid CDL Class A or B required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in truck maintenance with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools.
  • Proficiency with fleet maintenance software (e.g., Fleetio,  or similar).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding environments as needed.

Preferred Skills:

  • ASE certifications or OEM-specific training are a plus.
  • Experience with budgeting and cost control.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus, but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Split between office/shop floor and occasional fieldwork.
  • May require evening or weekend availability depending on fleet demands.
  • Fast-paced, high-responsibility environment.
