Field Service Mechanic – Heavy Equipment
Position Overview
- The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of mobile and support equipment in active field environments. This role places a strong emphasis on hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and powertrain troubleshooting, supporting uptime across fleet and jobsite equipment.
- Regular travel is required, including work at remote locations.
- Typical schedules include 10×4, 9×5, or 8×6, with alternative schedules considered based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety policies, procedures, and jobsite best practices
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on mobile and support equipment
- Troubleshoot electrical faults including wiring, sensors, switches, charging systems, starters, and control circuits
- Utilize diagnostic tools, software, and test equipment to identify failures and determine corrective action
- Repair or replace damaged, worn, or failed components in field conditions
- Perform inspections, routine servicing, and documentation of completed work
- Dismantle, repair, and reassemble components using hand tools, hoists, and service equipment
- Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Perform welding and light fabrication as needed to complete repairs or modifications
- Maintain accurate service records and communicate equipment status to operations and leadership
- Exhibit a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new systems and equipment
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with drilling rig systems, high-pressure hydraulics, and mobile haul equipment preferred
- Familiarity with rig power, hydraulic circuits, and electrically controlled mobile equipment is a plus
- Experience troubleshooting large-frame mobile equipment used in drilling or material movement preferred
- Experience working on OTR trucks, engines, and auxiliary equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex failures independently
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel, work outdoors, and perform duties in all weather conditions
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints and shifting priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate information and determine effective solutions
- Ability to maintain a professional, team-oriented attitude in demanding conditions
