Geotechnician

Turner Staffing Group is seeking a Lead Geotechnician to support active exploration and mining operations across Nevada (Winnemucca area) and Southeastern Idaho. This role is a key field leadership position responsible for overseeing geotechnician activities, supporting drilling programs, and ensuring high-quality sample collection and data integrity.

This position offers the opportunity to work across greenfield through resource stage (RSV) projects, providing exposure to diverse geological environments while leading field execution.

Schedule

• 4 days on / 3 days off 
• Rotational work across multiple sites

Position Overview

The Lead Geotechnician plays a critical role in supporting drilling and exploration programs by overseeing core handling, sampling, and data collection activities, while ensuring all procedures meet QA/QC and safety standards.

You will act as a field lead, coordinating geotechnicians, working closely with geologists and drill crews, and ensuring efficient and accurate execution of daily exploration tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support execution of drilling and sampling programs
• Supervise and train geotechnicians; ensure adherence to SOPs and QA/QC protocols
• Collect and manage geological samples, including blanks, duplicates, and standards
• Cut core, prepare samples, and organize shipments to laboratories
• Transport, organize, and maintain drill core and sample inventory
• Prepare sample bags, chip trays, and documentation for drilling programs
• Photograph core, chip trays, and samples as required
• Assist with data collection including:
  • Core orientation and recovery (RQD)
  • Specific gravity measurements and point load testing
  • GPS collar location collection and database entry
  • Hyperspectral or pXRF data collection (as applicable)
• Maintain core shed organization, safety, and inventory control
• Coordinate with geologists, drill crews, and project teams to support drill plans
• Identify and communicate operational or safety issues in the field

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience supporting drilling and exploration programs
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor field technicians
• Strong understanding of sampling methods and QA/QC procedures
• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Ability to work in outdoor and remote environments across Nevada and Idaho
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data entry systems
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without work visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or coursework in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field
• Experience with core handling, RC sampling, and drilling support
• Experience operating equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, or telehandlers
• Familiarity with GPS data collection and geological databases
• Experience with pXRF or hyperspectral tools
• Prior experience in a lead or senior technician role
