Land GPS Surveyor
Position Overview
We are seeking a mid-level Land/GPS Surveyor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting precise land surveys using advanced GPS technology and traditional surveying methods. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while contributing to complex surveying projects.
Key Responsibilities
Field Survey Operations
- Conduct boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking using GPS/GNSS equipment, total stations, and data collectors
- Collect and process field data using GPS technology and conventional surveying instruments
- Establish and maintain control points and benchmarks
Technical Skills & Documentation
- Operate and maintain GPS receivers, total stations, levels, and other surveying equipment
- Process survey data using industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, AgTek or similar)
- Prepare detailed survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions
- Review and interpret deeds, plats, and other legal documents
- Maintain accurate field notes and documentation
Project Management & Collaboration
- Work independently on assigned projects while meeting deadlines
- Coordinate with project managers, estimators, and clients
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and professional standards
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding project progress and findings
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- Associate’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field, OR equivalent experience
- Valid state surveyor license or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months
Experience
- 2-5 years of professional land surveying experience
- Proven experience with GPS/GNSS surveying systems
- Experience with boundary surveys and property research
- Knowledge of local surveying practices and regulations
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency with GPS equipment (Trimble, Leica, Topcon, or similar)
- Experience with total stations and conventional surveying instruments
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AgTek and surveying software applications
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans
Professional Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
- Valid driver’s license
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications – OPTIONAL
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
- Experience with construction layout and engineering surveys
- Knowledge of GIS applications and data management
- OSHA 10-hour safety certification
