Senior Mine Engineer – Long Range

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mine Engineer – Long Range to develop, maintain, and optimize Life of Mine (LOM) plans for a large open-pit mining operation in northeastern Nevada. This position is responsible for long-term strategic mine planning, economic optimization, mine design, and cross-functional collaboration to maximize operational performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental stewardship.

This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary technical teams while contributing to the long-term success of a major surface mining operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize Life of Mine (LOM) plans for open-pit mining operations.

  • Perform pit optimizations, mineral inventory support, fleet sizing studies, stack planning, and technical evaluations focused on asset optimization.

  • Design open pits, waste rock storage facilities, haul roads, and stormwater drainage systems.

  • Validate and analyze block models using drill data; scripting experience is preferred.

  • Integrate short-range plans into long-range and Life of Mine schedules.

  • Perform economic evaluations and support technical and feasibility studies.

  • Reconcile planned versus actual production and update mine plans to maximize operational value.

  • Collaborate with mine planning, geology, environmental, metallurgy, geotechnical, maintenance, and operations teams to ensure technically sound long-range plans.

  • Research and implement improvements to planning processes, technologies, and engineering methodologies.

  • Promote a strong safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in cross-functional assignments within the Technical Services group to broaden technical expertise.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of surface mining engineering experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of open-pit mine planning principles and engineering practices.

  • General knowledge of mining operations, with familiarity in milling and maintenance processes.

  • Experience with one or more mine planning software packages such as MineSight, Deswik, Vulcan, Studio NPVS, or similar.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting technical information to leadership.

  • Technical writing experience is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
