Geologist

The Production Geologist is responsible for collecting, interpreting, and communicating geological observations and sample data to support safe and efficient underground mining operations. This position plays a critical role in guiding production within a structurally complex orebody.

Production Geologists spend the majority of each shift underground collecting samples, mapping headings, lining out production areas, and collaborating closely with operations and engineering teams. The role requires mobility throughout the mine, including driving company vehicles and operating lift equipment for face sampling.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a geologist who has:

  • Underground mining experience (strongly preferred)
  • Grade control experience (highly desirable)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operations, engineering, and technical teams
  • A proactive approach to safety and problem-solving in a fast-paced mining environment

Essential Responsibilities

  • Map and sample ore faces for assaying
  • Identify potential geological hazards and understand ground support/bolting requirements
  • Provide structural interpretations to predict geological conditions ahead of active mining faces
  • Map completed stopes to identify slabs, benches, and additional mining opportunities
  • Make muck pile placement recommendations based on acid generation characteristics
  • Sample underground ribs for acid-rock characterization
  • Enter face mapping and sampling data into AutoCAD and acQuire
  • Prepare and distribute daily mine production reports
  • Participate in daily map meetings by providing geological updates
  • Prepare Acid Rock Drainage (ARD) reports from underground sampling
  • Safely navigate underground workings while maintaining awareness of equipment, traffic, and changing conditions
  • Clearly communicate with supervisors and crews both in person and via radio

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
  • One or more years of experience in mining or exploration geology
  • Underground mining experience preferred
  • Grade control experience is a strong plus

Technical Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Preferred experience with Deswik, LeapFrog, Datamine, or equivalent geological modeling software
  • Familiar with a variety of underground mining methods

Additional Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, employees will frequently be required to:

  • Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
  • Use hands and fingers to handle equipment and samples
  • Reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds
  • Maintain close and distance vision with the ability to adjust focus
  • Work safely in underground mining conditions while wearing required PPE, including hearing protection

Schedule

  • 14 days on / 14 days off rotation
  • Occasional night shift work may be required

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to work in a technically challenging underground mining environment where your geological expertise directly impacts mine planning, safety, and production. You’ll work alongside experienced mining professionals while gaining exposure to complex structural geology, production geology, and grade control in an active underground operation.

Qualified candidates with underground mining experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates with grade control experience are especially encouraged to submit their resumes for consideration.
