Heavy Equipment Operator- Traveling
Position Summary
The traveling Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of mobile heavy equipment used in mining operations. Equipment may include haul trucks, loaders, excavators, water trucks, dozers, graders, and other production support machinery. Operators play a critical role in maintaining production goals while adhering to strict safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy mobile equipment in a safe, efficient, and productive manner
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and complete required documentation
- Identify and report mechanical issues or unsafe conditions promptly
- Follow mine site safety procedures, policies, and MSHA regulations at all times
- Work closely with supervisors, dispatch, and other team members to meet daily production targets
- Maintain clean and orderly equipment cabs and work areas
- Assist with general mine site tasks as needed to support operations
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in mining, quarry, construction, or similar industrial environments preferred
- Ability to safely operate one or more types of mobile equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, excavators, or dozers
- MSHA certification preferred (or willingness to obtain if required)
- Strong understanding of equipment safety protocols and hazard awareness
- Ability to work in varying weather and site conditions
- Reliable transportation and strong attendance record
- Ability to work day shift, night shift, weekends, and overtime as needed
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment multiple times per shift
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to work in dusty, rugged outdoor environments
