Technical Services Manager
Reports to Director of Technical Services
Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, the Technical Services Manager executes the technical and analytical work that
drives Turner Mining Group’s planning, performance analysis, technology deployment, and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role realizes strategic vision by developing mine plans, deploying and managing field technologies, building analytics tools,
and partnering with operations teams to interpret production data and improve results.
The Technical Services Manager works cross-functionally with Operations, Estimating, Maintenance, and Safety to ensure mine
plans, cost models, and reporting systems align with project goals, corporate objectives, and best practices. The position
requires strong technical expertise, hands-on execution capability, and the ability to convert complex data into clear, actionable
insights.
This role supports the Director of Technical Services in advancing engineering rigor, data maturity, and technology adoption
across Turner Mining Group.
Position Responsibilities:
Operational & Technical Execution
Develop short-, medium-, and long-range mine plans for use by project teams and for bid development.
Build production models, haul simulations, cycle-time analyses, and fleet match evaluations.
Ensure mine plans align with safety requirements, operational constraints, and contract scope.
Validate client engineering, identify optimization opportunities, and recommend design improvements.
Support site teams with pit layouts, haul road design, stockpile planning, and material movement sequencing.
Conduct on-site reviews of planning execution, haul road performance, and cycle efficiency to ensure accurate field
implementation.
Assist in technical risk assessments and support the Director in evaluating operational, technical, and financial risks
associated with mining projects.
Technology Implementation & Systems Management
Lead deployment, configuration, and training for GPS machine control, telematics, fleet management systems,
networking, drone mapping, and survey tools.
Maintain data integrity across machine guidance, payload systems, telematics, and production reporting sources.
Work with OEMs, vendors, IT, and field leadership to troubleshoot and optimize system performance.
Develop and standardize technical SOPs for all planning, survey, and technology workflows.
Support evaluation and integration of new mining technologies, automation, and digitalization tools, aligned with
Director-level strategy.
Performance Analytics & Reporting
Build and maintain dashboards to visualize production, cost performance, equipment utilization, KPIs, and operational
trends.
Analyze operational data to provide actionable insights to site teams.
Support development of business intelligence tools and contribute to Turner’s operations data strategy.
Generate recurring reports for project reviews, corporate updates, and executive briefings.
Assist the Director in consolidating operational and financial data for senior management reporting.
Automate data processing and reporting workflows to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
Estimating & Strategic Support
Provide production estimates, mine plans, and technical inputs for new project opportunities.
Assist with operating cost models, scenario modeling, and sensitivity analyses as directed by the Director.
Participate in due diligence assessments by evaluating client data, mine designs, and operational assumptions.
Maintain a library of standardized estimating assumptions, performance baselines, and cost drivers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Operations leadership to reconcile planned versus actual performance and recommend
improvements.
Coordinate with Maintenance to understand downtime drivers, SMU trends, and equipment health data.
Partner with Safety on hazard analysis mapping, traffic management design, and geotechnical considerations.
Assist the Director in facilitating workshops, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the organization.
Support procurement reviews by providing technical insights into OEM capabilities and technology options.
The Ideal Candidate
Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Data Analytics, or related technical field.
5–10 years of direct experience in mining or heavy civil operations with demonstrated planning and analytical capability.
Strong understanding of mine planning, haulage optimization, pit design, and equipment productivity.
Proficiency with mine planning or CAD tools (Civil 3D, Carlson, Deswik, Minesight, or similar).
Advanced Excel capability and working proficiency with Power BI and database/reporting tools.
Familiarity with machine control, telematics systems, drone survey workflows, and GIS.
Working knowledge of production cost modeling, KPI tracking, and operational performance analytics.
